Freshmen are housed in a collection of small dorms at the center of the
campus near the major eating facility. "Upperclassmen" live in one of
several larger dormitories, other housing, or in few cases off campus.
Although their houses remain important as student housing today,
fraternities were eased out of the College's life 40 years ago. The
college spends large sums to keep its student housing in very fine
condition and now technologically current.
Most students may eat at any one of 4 large dining facilities. In
addition there is a centrally located snack bar that is quite popular.
There are several informal places to eat (pizza, sandwiches, cafe) on
Spring Street, the main, block long street the college surrounds in
Wiliamstown. In addition a short drive away are numerous fine and a few
outstanding restaurants.
There are 2 bars within walking distance and the College operates a
student pub with a beer/wine license that is open weekends.
There are numerous events, e.g. sporting, art, music, etc., that take
place daily throughout the school year.
