The social life is not as diverse as could be expected. In Lexington,
there are few bars and restaurants, and no night clubs. The
closest urban areas, or real college-scenes, are in Roanoke and
Charlottesville, about an hour away each. The Palms is a popular
student hangout, as are Salerno's and Lee Hi Travel Plaza. The
Southern Inn, Sheridan Livery Inn and Willson Walker House are
popular upscale restaurants. Greek life is very important on
campus, but even more so for male students. Fraternity parties are
a weekend staple since there are no other significant social outlets.
