| Full-time undergraduate program |
The application is pretty standard, you can either apply early or at the
regular time, 2 or 3 months later. It was my subjective opinion that an
above average number of students apply early to W&L. The idea is that
you have a better chance of getting in because of your clearly stated
preference. Perhaps more students take this option with W&L than other
schools because of alumni loyalty. Many children and relatives of
alumni are encouraged to apply (often early-decision) because most
alumni have very warm memories of their own college experiences.
I would encourage anyone remotely qualified to apply for an honor
scholarship upon admission. The application for the honor scholarships
is not much more onerous than the regular application, perhaps just one
or two additional essays. Those who are selected to compete for the
honor scholarships get to stay in Lexington for 2-3 days for a series of
interviews with a board of students, a board of faculty members, and an
admissions officer. When not interviewing, the very friendly host
students often show prospectives the party scene and the campus. Even
if not selected to receive one of the full-tuition honor scholarships,
participation in the honor scholarhip weekend automatically puts
students in contention for a number of very generous alumni and regional
scholarships.
