The social life at Villanova is very active and has something for
everyone. There are many clubs and organizations including fraternities
and sororities, campus ministry, special olympics, theater and student
government.
If you are someone who is into the partying and drinking scene then there
are lots of parties and bars in the area and Philadelphia is only a short
train ride away. Keep in mind that the local community frowns upon the
"out of control" college students so cops are an issue and many of the
local bars are strict when it comes to underage admittance.
There are also events on campus to attend at night including concerts,
comedians, plays and game shows.
I was in a sorority at Villanova and I loved it. It was great my
freshman year to meet so many other people in different dorms and majors
whom I normally would not have met. The sororities at Villanova don't
have houses even though many of the sisters will live together. I lived
with girls in other sororities for all 4 years and that was never a
problem.
Sorority Rush occurs in the winter a week before classes resume for the
spring. If you choose to rush you will be contacted by your "rho chi"
who is your counselor and buddy for the rush process. Please feel free
to speak to her about any questions, concerns, and issues. That is what
she is there for and she wants to help.
I was also involved in other activities at Villanova such as Habitat for
Humanity. Every fall and spring break you can apply to go on a Habitat
for Humanity trip to a location in the US. These trips are a great time
and the perfect opportunity to help others, do a little soul searching
and meet some great friends.
Another community service based organization includes Special Olympics.
I believe Villanova has the largest all student run special Olympics
event in the world. Every fall the school hosts the Special Olympics
with events such as soccer, weight lifting, roller skating, cross country
running and volleyball. Special Olympics needs thousand of volunteers
every year and the entire community comes out to help.
Whatever your talents and interest may be, Villanova has something for you.
