Housing on campus is great. The University makes a concerted effort to
provide housing which creates communuty. Clusters of buildings sit
together thus creating this environment. As a freshman you will most
likely be housed on "South Campus" which is home to the modernized
Donahue Hall Food Court and Market as well as to about 5 buildings
which are devoted to freshman. Donahue is just as good as any mall's
food court in terms of cleanliness, food choice and quality. The market
has plenty of fun foods (smoothies and soft baked pretzels) and staples
(like milk, etc) to choose from. Living on South is neat because it's a
tight knit, fun freshman community. Sophomore year many students live
on main campus in the "Quad." This is a hot spot because it provides
such close proximity to many buildings, venues, dining locales, etc.
For example, it is next door to the new and beautiful Bartley
Hall/College of Commerce and Finance and right across the way from the
brand new Student Health Center.
As a junior you'll live in the West Campus Apartments. West Campus
features 8 apartment buildings, 4 of which are relatively new and 4 of
which are brand new. All are very nice and house the vast majority of
the Junior class. There is a gym on West, as well as a market, post
office and volleyball/tennis courts. Parking is available at the rate
of 2 permit stickers/ per apartment unit. Each unit houses 4 students.
For the 4th and final year of study at Villanova, most seniors move off
campus to nearby towns such as Bryn Mawr, Ardmore and Wayne. The Office
for Student Life and Residence Life has booklets and information
sessions to help students prepare for this.
There is hardly any crime on the campus of Villanova University and
much of this is a function of its location on the Main Line- a wealthy,
suburban community. In general the facilities on campus are in top
condition--new facilities include the Mendel Science Center, School of
Engineering building, Bartley/College of Commerce and Finance, Student
Health Center, and 4 West campus apartments. One facility that is
enjoyed by all students is the Connelly Center on Main Campus. Connelly
Center is a 2 story building with a restaurant, Cyber Lounge, Student
Video rental store, candy counter, and also formal conference rooms
which are open to students for meetings, etc.
The overall aesthetics of the Villanova University campus are unmatched
by any other. It has the feel of a beautiful, peaceful and classic
college campus. The chapel is particularly stunning. If you have the
chance I would definitely go and see it for yourself! Be sure to ask
for a Blue Key tour!
