The career development office is active, and students have many resources to
consult in regards to prospective careers. The CDO publishes a newsletter
alerting students to upcoming internship deadlines and gives advice in regards to
grad school or professional school. Pre-med and pre-law students receive special
advisors in addition to their regular advisors.
Vassar sponsors a program called "Field Work", in which students receive
academic credit for completing internships and work related to their major field
of study. It is helpful in gaining real-world experience in students' fields of
choice.
Law schools come to the college in the fall to recruit and speak with students;
many companies come to campus to recruit in the spring.
Vassar seems to be highly regarded on the national scale; as one of the original
Seven Sisters schools, it was originally intended to be the equivalent of an
Ivy-league school for women. After it went co-ed in 1969 (a result of declining
Yale's offer to merge), it retained its reputation as an excellent college.
