The Vassar admissions process seems to become more selective every year-
the class of 2007 had a 29% admit rate, whereas several years before
the admit rate hovered around 40%. Vassar seems to regard transcript,
standardized test (SAT, ACT, SAT II) scores, and class rank heavily;
essays and recommendations are also very important. There is one long
essay question; in addition, there are a few short-answer questions: my
advice is to answer each question as thoughtfully and carefully as
possible. The college asks about each applicant's most meaningful
extracurricular activity, his/her reasons for going to Vassar, etc.
The interview is entirely optional, and the majority of interviews are
conducted off-campus-- local alumni contact applicants who request an
interview. On-campus interviews are granted only to children of alumni.
