The best. Period. The greatest place on Earth to be on a warm evening
in June is at the Memorial Union Terrace on the shore of Lake Mendota.
The union serves great (and I do mean great) local beer and hosts great
bands. Thats right, the student union serves beer, it is in Wisconsin,
afterall. Its perfect.
Football saturdays in the fall are great. Every one gets up early, puts
on their cleanest red and white clothes, and drinks a few beers before
heading to Camp Randle Stadium. Its like the whole city shuts down for
a big party.
The bars. The night life. Its the quinessential college town, except
with a smart-ass twist. For example, one popular weekend hangout is at
a bar on Park Street famous for hosting "Smut and Eggs." I'll let you
figure out what that is.
Another favorite is The Essen Haus, a German bar/resteraunt that is
popular for serving great German beer is huge glass boots that are
passed around a table of friends. There is a game that is played to see
who has to buy the next boot.
If you don't have fun in Madison, you have serious problems.
