UVa's social scene was lacking in a few senses, but very strong in
others. The Greek system controls the aprties, especially for
freshmen...and the general quality is low, although the parties are free
and usually not fdifficult to get into. Charlottesville is severely
lacking in clubs and nightlife, although there is a strong bar scene
once you break the 21 mark. Dating wise is alright, there are many
people at UVa and a huge variety of types/interests. People are
generally friendly and a remotely socialble person will have no trouble
maing friends in their dorm and through classes. Partially due to the
nature of housing where all freshman live in dorms and almost no
upperclassmen do, many people make most of their freinds first
year...which is a little unfortunate although creates strong ties among
those people. The food in Charlottesvilel is unbelievably good, and
should be explored thoroughly. While expensive on a college budget at
times, it was always worth it and not that bad considering the cost of
living in a major city. The College Inn restaurant was a favorite late
night meal, and the Biltmore is excellent for lunch, dinner, or drinks.
Sports are a favorite at UVa and while our football team isn't always
dominant, the social scene makes going to every home game worth it.
Don't discoutn the little guys either, we have first class lacross and
soccer programs as well.
