UVa is by far the most beautiful campus I have ever visited and will
always remember the physical Grounds fondly. Charlottesville is a great
small city with pretty much all the resources one needs, as well as
great food and a wondergul town population who is relatively receptive
(at least tolerant) of the student body.
First year housing was adequate to my needs but not much beyond that.
While it would be nice for UVa to provide more upper class housing,
living in private apartments is very cheap in Charlottesville and ends
up costing not much more than living on grounds would. While many of
the "best" apartments go quickly to upper classmen and "legacy" friends,
it is not difficult for a first year (becoming a second year) to get a
nice place and/or upgrade to a great place the next year. Pretty much
all students can live within short walking distance of Ground.
UVa dining is no better than any other cafeteria, and the school should
provide better "per dollar" meal options.
Charlottesville is fairly safe, almost completely so around the
University. Students learn quickly which parts of the town they should
avoid at night, although they are fairly far away and there is little
reason for them to be in those parts of town.
