Both McIntire and the University of Virginia have a large amount of prestige
with employers. Career services both for UVA and Commerce Career services in
the
McIntire School of Commerce both work very hard to place students in the careers
that they want, get opporunities for them, help them plan their careers and
attract great employers to visit and interview at the university. Nevertheless,
UVA and McIntire's influence is mostly regional in the Washington DC area and
very much thins out outside of Virginia. Many Wall St. firms treat UVA
graduates
just as they would treat Ivy League graduates, however, only a minority (usually
the biggest) of firms make the effort to travel down to Charlottesville and
recruit from there. In this respect, New York schools and schools that are
closer have much more of an influence and "in" into the New York City job
market.
I can only imagine that UVA has little sway in California or other distant
parts
of the country. Nevertheless graduates from UVA, as the number 1 or 2 public
school and as one of the top 20 universities in the country, usually get the
same
treatment as graduates from Ivy League universities.
