| Full-time Engineering Undergraduate Program |
For engineering, business, pharmacy and nursing UT has got very reputable
programs. Employers also know this fact. I have been told on numerous
occasions
that all things being equal a UT graduate will be preferred over graduates from
other universities due to the reputation of its programs. While I did not
believe this fully at that time, I noticed the difference between UT grads and
grads from other schools.
Career prospects, including job & internship opportunities, and campus
recruiting work out great only if one is trying to get a job within their major.
Many students who want to seek employment in othert fields have to fend for
themselves. Departments can become quite territorial when they seek students
from other departments trying to get interviews with employers who are
recruiting
in their departments. This is a serious drawback.
The career placement resources are good when it comes to traditional means of
tapping companies that normally visit UT. However, when it comes to
non-traditional means there is a lack of "salesman type" tactics within the
career placement advisors. I believe that it is quite easy to help a student
with good grades who wants to work in his educational field get a job at a
company that recruit at UT. The challenge is being able to arm a candidate,
with
one or more of the 3 factors missing, with tactics that will help him get a job.
