The social life at USC left me disappointed. Many of the students work
hard for the grades, but they aren't necessarily retaining what they
learn. They are "fun" people, but I met very few interesting or
different people there. Many people flock to the Greek system, which is
an option for many students. For those who don't want to go that
direction, there are some other options, like clubs. If you don't fit
into these scenes, then you are kind of out of luck. While there is a
lot of diversity at the campus, there isn't enough. Overall, the
student body is very segregated into its little factions with Greek life
being the dominant culture on campus. If you find this suffocating, I
would suggest that you look someplace else. The dating scene is all
right. There are plenty of opportunities to date people on campus.
There is always a lot of social activity surrounding the football season
which makes it a lot of fun. If you are in the Greek system, you will
no doubt visit the local dive bars on a regular basis, but these scenes
aren't very welcoming to other types of folks. The Greek system has its
own snobbery and creates a lot of division on campus. Clubs can offer a
lot of ways to gain leadership experience. Even though campus
government is kind of a joke, participation is a lot of fun. A lot of
students are from Southern California, so they do travel home for the
weekends. Weekends at USC are extremely dull once the football season
is over.
