The admissions process to the University of Richmond is that not
complicated. The required submissions were the application forms
including the essay, SAT and SAT II scores, high school transcript,
financial aid forms, and recommendation letters (which may have been
optional). Interviews are not required for admission, but it is
recommended so that you can learn more about the school while the school
learns about you. A campus visit is highly recommended to determine
whether the university has the elements of campus living that is most
important. Try to make an appointment with department heads to speak
with them in depth about the programs, the intensity of the program, and
the type of students that most succeed in their departments.
The essay is straightforward, especially if the common application is
used. The university gives equal weight to the common application and
the school's own paper application. Whatever the topic, be sure to
organize the essay before writing. Spending at least two weeks
developing the essay and two weeks revising it is highly recommended. I
suggest coming up with an outline identifying a thesis statement,
supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. Have at least two people
review your essay, and try to obtain as much feedback as possible.
The university accepts people from many backgrounds and geographical
areas. Generally, Richmond attracts a large population of people from
the Northeast, some from the West Coast, and some from Virginia. There
was a small group of international students as well. For a university
its size, the population was fairly diverse. The students came from a
wide variety of academic backgrounds, including some of the brightest
students to average students. Be sure to check the academic
requirements on the school's website to make sure that you meet the
requirements.
