"Work Hard, Play Hard" Is the long standing motto of Penn. And by far,
it lives up to this reputation.
While most parties are at off campus fraternities or houses, there is a
small but thriving bar scene consisting of "Smokey Joe's", "New Deck
Tavern" "The White Dog" "L.T's". The late night campus food choice
favored my all is Allegro's, a pizza joint that serves up its own
specialty bottles of hot sauce, provided you can take the heat.
The Greek system at Penn is prevalent, with some 30-40% of students
involved in Greek life, although Penn Students resent the common Frat
and Sorority Stereotypes that are associated with their organizations.
By far the culmination of the school year, socially at least, is
Penn's "Spring Fling." Occuring in early April, Penn brings several big
name artists/bands to play at Franklin Field football stadium, and from
about wednesday to sunday, the whole campus is nonfunctional. Ever
popular items are black t-shirts with the solitary word "Sober" on them.
It is truly an event not to be missed.
