The Greek system took a hit back in 1999 when Penn was declared a dry
campus. Fraternities and sororities were forced to move into off campus
houses if they wanted to throw the usual parties. All parties on campus
were manned by school security guards checking IDs and bartending.
Philadelphia has an expansive night life to offer students who are of
age (and some who are not). If you are willing to venture off campus,
there is way too much to do. There are phenomenal restaurants, clubs
and bars.
The best thing about the social life at Penn was the other surrounding
college campuses. There is Drexel, Temple, Villanova and St. Joseph
just to name a few. There are only three degrees of separation, so it
is very easy to meet new people.
I had a great social life at Penn, and I have a great education and a
wonderful job. In synapsis, I would say it was all a wonderful
experience.
