The career office could be a lot more helpful than it actually is. The type of
recruiters who come to campus are mostly financial institutions and consulting
companies. The Wharton students, especially recently have had a great advantage
in terms of getting job offers from on campus recruiters. Students looking for
different jobs have to mostly look on their own. The career center sends out jon
opportunity emails which sometimes help but are also mostly centered towards the
financial industry. It is the same with internships. The school does not play a
very large role in getting the students internships.
One huge advantage that Penn students have is the prestige of being an Ivy
League school and the alumni contacts. The networking resources are a huge plus
in looking for jobs. Career resources can seriously be improved. For such a large
school, just one tiny career services office is not enough and more online
resources are needed.
