Well, it goes without saying that people know of Penn and an education there can
definitely help you in the job market. Every summer vacation I had an internship.
And Penn provides many resources to help you find what it is you want to do. They
have online resources, a career center, etc. My first two internships were both
in Philadelphia, both were paid and one turned into a part-time job for me Senior
year. My third internship was in New York City and was also paid and was a
wonderful experience. I'm sure you've heard it before but once you are in college
I would highly recommend finding internships over the summer. It will only help
build your resume and in this job market you will need that!!!
When it comes time to find a "real job" senior year, Penn has a pretty good
campus recruiting process. However, the one big draw back is that it is very much
geared to Wharton students. If you are looking for jobs within Communications or
other Liberal Arts areas you will probably have to do the search on your own. I
had a few interviews through campus recruiting that led to second round
interviews at the company; however, I ultimately found my job by using a head
hunter.
I now work in New York City and I would have to say that going to Penn has
surely helped me along the way. As we all know the job market is horrific right
now, yet, a couple months ago I switched jobs and it took me relatively a short
amount of time to find something new. And needless to say, they were very
impressed that I had gone to Penn.
