| Full-time undergraduate program - Materials Science |
The interview process and hints and tips are laid out very clearly in
the prospectus. I would strongly advise going to an Open Day or trying
to visit the department before applying, at least to find out what you
are getting yourself in for. The department is very friendly and will
probably be impressed at your initiative if you organise to visit. You
don't need to send any coursework. Make sure your personal statement on
you UCAS form sells you! Tell them why you want to do materials, which
parts of your A-levels you have found interesting and why, and why you
think you would be good. Extracurricular activities look good but
shouldn't occupy most of the page.
In the interview you will probably have to do a maths, physics and
chemistry question. They will not be testing you on your A-levels, but
on things you don't already know. They want to see how you interact with
them, and whether they could teach you, so I guess the best advice I can
give is to be outgoing and interested. Don't expect to know all the
answers to the questions, and don't be scared to ask questions back.
