Housing: Depending on your dorm you can stay in a state-of-the-art
facility or in a 100-year old bathroom stall with rusty doorknobs and
three roommates. Usually you stay on the same dorm until you (a)
graduate or (b) move off campus and they're all single sex. There's a
lot of dorm spirit and I believe that they're the closest thing ND has
to a fraternity/sorority. Recent increase alcohol regulations have
motivated higher and higher amounts of students to move off-campus. In
the past you could easily find juniors and seniors in the dorms, but
now - especially in the guys dorms - fewer kids are staying on campus.
In general facilities are state-of-the-art and there's a new building
every year on campus. There are two dining halls, South DH is
absolutely fantastic and North DH seems to serves SDH's yesterday's
remainings on a daily basis. There're two very good gyms on campus and
many many sports facilities. South Bend is a pretty bad city; However,
a lot of students have no reason to leave the "bubble" (i.e., how we
refer to the campus) so what's going on outside doesn't concern you
unless you live off-campus.
