ND is not the university my parents went to, I am not Catholic, I am
not of Irish origins, I was not a varsity athlete during high school
and I do not necessarily like football.
So how did I end up going to ND? I think this combination got me into
ND:
brains (4.0 in high school),
being Asian-American,
being very focused extracurricularly in high school in environmental
endeavors,
previously attending ND's summer intro to engineering prgm and
a special "Ode to ND" poem that was a part of my ND application. I was
accepted into 5 private national universities. I felt like picking out
of a hat to decide where to study. It felt then like the most
excruciating decision I had to make in my entire life. Luck (of the
Irish) pushed me toward the final decision of attending Notre Dame. It
was the best nationally-recognized school on my list of choices and for
the best price of my choices. They gave me a 50% tuition scholarship
and the ticket to the best future I could have ever imagined.
