Alright I am bias because I hang out with athletes, but I think the
Greek System is stupid. It is paying for friends, but if that is your
cup of tea, then go for it. There houses are run down and they are not
viewed as the coolest kids on campus, but in the first 2 weeks of every
year, the whole freshmen class goes there, so if you want some nice
freshmen honies in that first two weeks, there is an option. The
sororities are pretty popular, i always see matching sweatshirts and
bandanas around, i will say the girls are good looking. I have never
been to a sorority house so I will not make judgements on something I
would really just be bullshiting. The bars are pretty strict about ids,
there is one street in the middle of amherst with about 5-7 bars and all
but one is set up where there is the bar and then a dancefloor where
everyone grinds. There are no dollar drafts or anything promotional, so
anyone interested in starting a bar, let me know i will help you out for
a little chunk of change. Anyway after the bar gets out everyone
gathers on the sidewalk, "club sidewalk". Last call is 12:30 by the
way, everyone is out by about 1. "Club sidewalk" gathers around this
pizza place with the best topping in the world, from chicken parm to
nacho grande pizza.
There is always good comedians coming to campus, I have seen daral
Hamond (Al Gore on snl), Jim Brewer, Tracy Morgan, and Richard Stein.
We always have one good concert at the end of the year, for my two
years, it was ludacris freshmen year and 50 this past year. Also
Naughty by Nature performed out on the lawn, which was a real good show.
For food there is everying you can order, there is a place called wings
i would recomend visiting on your visit of the campus, best food I have
ever had not in my area. All types of restaurants too. There is a
small mall that is growing pretty fast close by, then a real big mall
about 25 minutes away. They tow a lot and meters are 25 cents for 15
minutes, so cars are expensive. Kegs are illegal, but there are keg
parties everynight if you know people. You go to a house, everyone is
usually drinking, some beer pong going on. That is what I enjoy doing
the most, gets the most stories for the next day. If you like the sound
of this, I would also recommend no friday classes, did it last semester
and i loved it.
