I've found that the UMass Amherst name carries a lot more weight outside of
Massachusetts than within it. UMass Amherst has a strong national and
international reputation as a good school, and this has helped me in my career.
While I was in school, there were many internship opportunities. I did a couple
of local internships, and one in Boston. The career placement center was very
helpful. I spent a lot of time there! Even now, they are willing to help their
alumni find new jobs.
An added benefit - because UMass Amherst is part of the 5-college system with
Hampshire, Amherst, Smith, and Mt. Holyoke, I was also able to use the resources
at their career centers. The center at Smith was small, but especially helpful.
