Interviews were not required, although you could opt for an information interview during your campus visit if you wanted. Getting in wasn't hard for me. My grades were very strong, my SAT's were good (1260+) and I had a good application package. I applied to UMass as a strong back up that I knew I'd like, and that I could afford. I also applied to several expensive private schools, and ended up choosing UMass mainly due to money.
