UIUC has the country's largest Greek system and it is VERY obvious on
campus. If you were the sort of person who would be turned off by
that, UIUC may not be the best place for you. Personally, I was never
a part of the Greek system but lived on the fringes of it for my entire
four years there, and that suited me just fine! I was able to attend a
lot of fraternity parties and other fraternity social events even
though I was not in a sorority. There are a ton of bars and restaurants
on campus and they really compete to get the students in there with
theme nights and special pricing and stuff like that. It is definitely
a big party school, which unfortunately can completely de-rail less
disciplined and more vulnerable students.
