Every semester there is a career showcase for 2 days, usually within the first
4-5 weeks of the semester. I happened to take an interest in a career in retail,
and we have the Miller Center for Retailing, which is funded largely by retail
companies. Certain ones are included in the program for internships. The center
provides an outlet for students to talk about their internship, get advice from
the sponsors if they run into any problems, etc. I accepted an internship with
Bealls Dept. Stores this past summer. I signed up for a class to take along with
my internship, which you HAVE to take through the center if you're interning with
one of their companies. I regsitered for 3 credits, but 1 and 2 credits are also
available. We're provided with a book of assignments which helps enrich our
experiences. Then we have a number of surveys to fill out at the end of our
internship with any problems we may have had and also successes. We have
evaluations for our supervisors to fill out as well.
