The social life is local your first two years. There is a greek
system, but it is not that big. You will spend a lot of time going to
house parties, bar parties, fraternity parties and local bars like The
Border, The Stadium, Las Margaritas, Rievers and some others.
Your second two years, you will start going downtown more often and
spending breaks (including summer and the six-week winter break) in
other cities with friends and/or working. It is a lot of fun to go up
to the mountains as well. In the summer and spring, camping up there
is remarkable and during the winter, you will party with your friends
in Breckonridge, Vail or Keystone. When you go skiing, you come down
to the bottom of the mountain, there are slope-side restaurants/bars
that play live music and everyone is in thier ski clothes. It is
always a great scene because people are generally happy and the
musicians play songs by request.
There are a lot of luxuries to experience being a student at DU because
of the socio-economic bubble of students. Pretty much everybody has
family money and it can lead to a lot of people with narrow views on
life. However, you only live college once and why not enjoy the
luxuries you have at your disposal. I had an awesome time.
