Because of the concentration of the school's students into a square-mile
community, the social scene is great. It's easy to find a party
happening in Isla Vista on any weekend night (sometimes during the
week). IV's one bar "The Study Hall" is a good place to meet people,
but you'll have more fun lounging in the sun, people-watching, and
enjoying a few pitchers at Sam's-to-Go, the sandwich shop across the
street. If you're over 21 and looking for the club scene, go to
downtown Santa Barbara, where there are plenty of fun clubs and bars on
State Street. A cab ride is about $20, but UCSB students can ride the
bus for free! The Greek scene is probably not as big at UCSB as at
other schools, but there is still a presence.
