Quality of Life Survey
full-time undergraduate program Quality of life is great! You can't beat going to a school right on the beach. UCSB is probably still known as a "party school", which it is. The dorms are almost entirely freshman, and accomodations are above average. Some of the dorms have ocean views and are literally steps away from a great surf spot. Freshmen can find a good meal at the dining halls, at one of the various fast-food joints on campus, or a short distance away at one of several restaurants in Isla Vista. After thier freshman year, must students live in the square-mile adjacent community called Isla Vista. With so many young people in such a small area, there's always something fun going on-- parties, concerts in the parks, sports, etc. If you want to get out of the college town, it's about 20 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara, where you can find plenty of shopping, restaurants, and people watching. There are great hiking trails in the hills, and one of the best surfing beaches (Rincon) also nearby. While the party-school reputation may cause you to think twice about safety, students actually feel really safe on and off campus. Crime rate is low and there is plenty of visible law enforcement both on and off campus.
