Extremely safe campus. Located in an extremely affluent area of town,
UCSD is safe on and off campus. There is plenty of public
transportation for students to get around town as well as around the
campus because UCSD is the largest UC campus per square footage. A lot
of open space, but it is developed. Many trees and shady refuges.
Housing is ample and good quality. There are more than five dining
halls/cafeterias on campus that serve health conscious foods, as well
as the traditional campus foods. The recreational facilities are the
best in the west! RIMAC is a multimillion dollar athletics facility
that has indoor volleyball, racquetball, basketball, squash, and locker
rooms, activity rooms, and a weight room with full weight training
machies, free weights, olympic style weights, and aerobic machines.
There are two other facilities, but smaller, like RIMAC on campus.
There are two pools at UCSD, an indoor and outdoor one. Aside from
facilities, UCSD offers many opportunities for athletic involvement.
There is a comprehansive receration program that offers classes from
yoga to martial arts and underwater basket weaving, not to mention
wallyball! There are also intramural sports with three levels of
difficulty that accommodate all students styles and interests as well
as club sports.
