Internship opportunities are easy to find through the "academic internship
program" and a very good way to test out career options. Recruiting outside of
the engineering, computing, and sciences is almost non-existent. You will not be
handed a job as a graduate from UCSD. You will have to find a job through
networking and experience. The career-services center is somewhat helpful but
not all that impressive. UCSD has a good reputation in San Diego, but I wouldn't
say much more than the other two universities here. Prospective employers may
know you might be a bit smarter than graduates from the other universities, but
they won't care. They will want you to have work experience and that is the
bottom line. If you do not gain work experience while in college, you will
graduate from UCSD with very little practical knowledge, which is a mistake in
terms of finding employment after college. Many UCSD grads go on to graduate
school.
