A quote I heard as a freshman: "Academics, friends, sleep. Choose two."
The Dorm dining halls were rated amongst the nation's worst in a New York
Times review last year.
Unlike the other UCs, Berkeley only guarantees students one year of
housing. The university has been doing a good job of constructing new
housing to accomodate all the students. Construction is constantly going
on, and a once bad housing crunch is now tolerable. Those willing to
drive to school and live elsewhere, such as Oakland or Richmond may find
themselves with much cheaper rent. Also, it helps to know other people!
I've visited several extremely nice apartment/houses which have long
waiting lists. The only way to get a spot is to know someone moving out.
