Live as close to campus as possible because it gets sketchy the further out you go. The campus is gorgeous - explore it as much as possible. The facilities are being or have been renovated. The surrounding area is not great - stay away from the West side of campus. The South side to the East of Telegraph and by campus is the best place to be as an undegrad. You are close to the dorms so there are always students walking around. The North side is really pretty and the grad students typically live there. I lived in the dorm freshman year, an apartment on South side sophomore year, and in a sorority the last 2 years. Definitely live in the dorm your first year to get to know people.
