The admissions process at Berkeley is rather straight forward. There is
the universal application for all of the UCs. There are on-campus
counselors that are available; however, I did not use them, so I don't
know how helpful they are. Also, there are many student out-reach
programs who encourage young students to strive for higher education.
The essays are your average essays: asking you to tell a little about
yourself, life changing experieinces, etc.
It is difficult to judge how selective Berkeley is. The School of
Engineering, for example, is very selective. However, I've heard that
if you applied to the School of Natural Resources, it may be easier.
I'm unsure about the importance of SAT I and SAT II scores at this
point because of the controversy over rich kids being able to pay for
tutorial classes. However, I believe GPA is important. Majority of the
students that I have met had high school GPAs over 4.0.
I don't believe the school offers interviews.
