Admission & Application Survey
Full-time undergraduate program An applicant was required to choose 1 of the following 2 topics on which to write for his/her personal essay: (i) an aspect of his/her life s/he wanted to change, or (ii) a fable. You were also asked to write a couple of shorter essays, which included a letter to your roommate about yourself. As for other competitive universities, you also needed to provided your AP, Achievement and SAT scores, transcript of coursework and a list of extracurricular activities. When I reviewed the reasons why I had been accepted to Stanford, I recall the admissions officer noting that I had the right range of scores on my national exams and exceptional academics (almost all my classes my senior year were AP's), but most importantly, the admissions officer had the impression from my personal essay that I was a "nice person". I think if you want to get into Stanford, you need to emphasize your unique qualities but also your humanity and humility.
