Full-time undergraduate program Greek life, anyone? Rush is a big deal here, and if you live on South Campus you're first year, it's almost a must. North Campus houses more independents, though. The campus is "dry", but all that means here is that you can't buy liquor on your meal plan. The school is pretty much divided half and half, but everyone's involved in something. There are two big ministries on campus - Wesley Foundation and Campus Crusade for Christ - which are both havens for social activities. Almost everyone you meet is involved with some sort of spirituality group, or else they're looking to be. People do date here, but let's just say this: Every guy at SMU is dating someone, but most girls don't have a steady boyfriend. For some reason, with some of the Playboy ranked hottest college girls in the country, SMU boys go off campus to get their lovin'. There aren't Greek parties on campus, because we're dry; all Greek parties are bused to local bars like Bar Dallas or Across the Street Bar so that students can enjoy their spirits and get home safely. You rarely hear of a drunk driving accident here, because everyone's on buses when they're drunk. There are lots of resteraunts within walking distance of campus that accept Pony Express - the student charge account at SMU. Some of the favorites are Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, Roly Poly, Le Madeleine, and Smoothie King. Snider Plaza is also home of locally renowned Kuby's, Food from Galilee, Peggy Sue's Barbeque, Cisco Grill and other Highland Park classics. More classics include Cheuy's (mexican food), Wild About Harry's (frozen custard), and Pacuigo's - an Italian gelato style ice cream place that everyone loves. Shopping around SMU is what you'd expect from any school nicknamed Southern Millionaire's University: designer shops and upscale chains. There's also an Urban Outfitters nearby, which is pretty popular with the artsier students. The school has several traditional events every year, including a Celebration of Lights in December that is basically a multi-culturalized lighting of the tree and caroling. Apparently it's pretty popular, but I've never been. Nobody turns up for the football games, but tailgating always great turn out.
