There is no Greek system at Smith. The houses at Smith each have a
distinct character to them. But, unlike the Greek system, there are no
requirements for living somewhere. I went to a school that had a huge
social scene. Smith is far more tame than the typical, "let's get
smashed every Friday" scenario. The students are a bit more cerebral.
However, there are cartainly tons of parties on campus and at the other
schools. So, there is no lack of boys. The school is traditinal in
many respects, but the students are very prograssive. So, there is a
great deal of tolerance for the queer community - unlike any place I've
ever seen. This tolerance scares a lto of people, but I thinks it is
great to be at a school with all shades of whatever. I also think it
is good and healthy for women to know that they can have fun and be
complete and functioning without men; it allows young women to be more
discerning and have personal fortitude yet appreciate love when they
find it. the toen of Norhtmapton is terrifc. At first, it may seem
that W. Mass. is secluded, but the area is filled with students and has
clubs, bars, coffee shops, restraunts etc. There's never a lack of
things to do.
