Smith has a "cottage system" in which each student lives in a house, the largest of which is 100 students. Houses are largely self- governing and provide the initial social system for the students. In most cases student live and eat in their houses, fostering a strong sense of community from the outset. Northamption is a lovely small city with a vibrant downtown and lots of shops and resturants - a perfect collge town. The college has a very good relationship with the town and I never felt unsafe during my 4 years there.
