The career development office is a wonderful resource for students and alums.
The active almnae networks are also a huge help. The school does a gret job
bringing in recruiters during the senior year. Studnets also have acces to any
recruiters that come to Amherst, U. Mass., Hampsire, and Mt. Holyoke. this means
students have access to a large array of employers and graduate admissions
officers. Also, Smith has a praxis programs which allows students to do an
internship paid by the school over one summer. This is a HUGE advantage for
graduates because it allows students to take unpaid internships that htey might
not other wise get to take. As we all know, these internships can turn into
future jobs. One very great advancement that has occured since I grauted is the
new "Women and Financial Independence" program offered to students and alums.
When I left SMith, I had no clue how finances really worked. I think a lot of
women leave college not knowing this stuff bc. some of the old school mentality
that women don;t need to know how to finance things, what a 401k plan is and how
to pick a good one etc. The school has made great strides to arm women with this
information regardless of one's major. These are the commitments that make Smith
a VERY unique and wonderful place for women.
