Admission & Application Survey |
| Bachelors of the Arts |
One of the conveniences of applying to Skidmore is that it uses the
Common Application. But that does not make it a "common" school. Even
if you are using the "common app," I would suggest paying a great deal of
attention to your essay. Skidmore is a very liberal institution. They
value forward and creative thought and the essay should reflect that you
would fit into this type of environment. That does not mean that if you
are more conservative you should not look at Skidmore, just that perhaps
it is not your ideal institution. In addition to the essay, I suggest
going to Skidmore for an interview and campus tour, and if you can manage
the time, do an overnight stay. From the moment I walked onto the
campus, I was hooked. I knew I had to go there. The campus is beautiful,
and inviting, and the people are friendly and different. The interview
is a great way to learn more about how you would fit in at Skidmore.
While Skidmore is not ranked as high as other similar schools
academically, it becomes harder and harder to get in each year, as the
students accepted raise the bar for the next class. Above all, do not
apply to Skidmore as a safety school, because it is not as easy to get
into as it seems, and the school deserves more than that.
