Compared to the other major university on the lower mainlans (University of
British Columbia), SFU has made great strides in terms of prestige; especially
the Business program. At the time I attended, the norm was that UBC was much
better; however, by the time I had left, SFU was gaining ground, and to this day,
I have even heard that SFU has surpassed UBC, due to the intensive use of the
co-op program and the usage of case studies in senior level courses. Furthermore,
the increased popularity of the downtown campus has contributed to the awareness
of SFU within the business community. As an example of the UBC vs SFU debate, SFU
had their downtown campus at least back in 1990. UBC has only opened theirs a
year ago. Needless to say, the 10 year "to market" start SFU has over UBC has
improved relations with the business community.
