The quality of life is very high. With somewhat new facilities, the
daily monotony of classes can be enjoyably broken up spending your
downtime in the Campus Center. This is the center hub where students can
find the bookstore , a variety of food, and most of all their fellow
classmates unwinding.
While standard meal cards allow for cafeteria eating in the dorm quads,
you can also get the added package of dining money for the campus center
where Nathan's, KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Deli/Bagel Shop, Zepp's Subs,
and more can be found. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy eating
outside next to Albany campus's HUGE central fountain (while just a
minutes walk from your next class).
Freshman housing leaves a bit to be desired. Sophomore housing is a step
up, and rather enjoyable if you are a member of Greek life and can room
with your brothers/sisters. Juniors and Seniors can opt to live on
campus or off-campus. Off-campus is preferable!
With new gym facilities (thanks to Albany becoming the Spring Training
camp for the New York Giants), it is a worthy no cost alternative to
paying for a gym membership. You just have to find what times works best
for you, as MANY students take advantage of these facilities and it is
often packed!
Albany maintains its own police precinct on campus, and is surrounded
with emergency call boxes all over campus, so it is someplace you can
feel secure. There are also public underground tunnels to walk to and
from classes in the cold and snowy winters.
The neighborhood is fun with a few large malls, golf, skiiing, hiking,
and plenty of parks to go and relax.
