Employment Prospects Survey |
|
Career prospects at the university are quite good, as Albany is becoming a major
tech haven in upstate NY. Companies such as GE, International Paper, and First
Albany are all located in the capital district. Top students from the university
will find employment in these industries, granted they have pursued a quality
internship and have made excellent contacts during their undergraduate tenure.
The school of business is renowned for placing graduates in good entry-level
positions with many major corporations, as well as many public and private sector
occupations. Physical science students also have little worries about finding
employment after school, granted the economy is not in a recessionary state and
expansion is occurring in the respective industries.
A good fact to point out is many students go on to pursue graduate studies at
the worlds top universities. An exeptional student may be pursued by 4 companies
after undergrad, but may decide to attend the Wharton school of UPenn.
Internship opportunities are abound in almost all of the major programs at the
university. The career development center and the repective departments have
binders filled with opportunities for students who are looking for internships.
A G.P.A of 2.5 or higher allows for students to take an internship course, and
work for a company through the school for a semster, which may lead to employment
after graduating.
Campus recruiting occurs 2-3 times a year, with major companies being
represented who are looking to hire the top students from each class. Albany has
been long respected for educating and preparing top-level job candidates who make
an impact for their respective employers. The understanding is these individuals
are just as prepared as students graduating from correlating programs at NYU,
Fordham, and Columbia, but do not have to be paid the premium salary that the
graduates of private institutions expect. An interesting fact is that Albany
graduates are generally entrepreneurial in nature, the minds behind the EZ-Pass
system were graduates of UAlbany.
