Campus is enjoyable when you get to know the people on the campus,
especially if you dorm. But even if you don't, you can always meet
people through organizations, fraternities/sororities, etc. People at
Stony Brook at friendly so it isn't that hard to meet people, but, like
every campus, there are cliques, its just a question of meeting the
right people. On campus there are plenty of quiet study areas, during
finals week there is even a 24 hour quiet that is put into effect in
dorms. There are about 5 computer centers on campus ~30 computers each
(at least) and there is a computer center in each quad (5 building per
quad, and ~5 quads on campus). Stony Brook tries to accomodate living
arrangements by building more dorms, and it tries to upgrade its dorms
so some of the dorms has AC and all dorm rooms has cable tv and internet
capability. Stony Brook is located on Long Island, so the crime rate is
low, but of course, crimes do happen, but campus police are around
campus and there is also the "blue light" around campus which signifies
as an emergency telephone just beneath it.
