There are 6 bars. You get quick of them pretty quickly, esp.
considering you can get in from the first day you arrive as long as you
have a fake ID. Drinking usually starts at 9:30 PM, in the backyard or
basement of a frat house. People wander to the bar at around 12. Bars
close at 2. Some go to sleep, some go to "afterhours", where you're
sure to encounter people desperate to find a romantic encounter or some
more drugs.
Personally, I had some fun times, mostly because I loved my friends, but
was very disappointed with the whole social scene. I had always expected
college to be more fun than it was at Geneseo, and everytime I visited
another college, it WAS more fun there.
There are about 5,500 students, and about 1,000 of them go out on a
regular basis. So it winds up feeling a little like high school. There
are 10 small sororities and about the same number of frats. I pledged
simply because there wasn't much else to do. The other 4,000 do seem to
get somewhat involved in school clubs, but the overall sterotype of them
is that it's "weird" to be involved. I was able to take advantage of
some great leadership opportunities because there wasn't much
competition.
