The admissions process to RIT was fairly standard for the undergraduate
programs. The school required two formally written references, as well
as an extensive written application that included three essays pointed
at motivation seriousness of intent. I recommend that if you are set on
attending RIT, apply early admissions (due the December before the
September that school begins). There was no interview, and selectivity
depends on program. If you are looking to go to RIT for a photography,
graphic design, or illustration degree, be prepared to show admissions
some of your work. Photography is especially selective, as is
Microelectronic Engineering. The other engineering/business/liberal
arts/science majors are not generally as selective. The biggest little-
known secret about RIT's admissions is that they seem to allow about 80%
of applicants admission, then students that can't handle the rigorous
academic environment weed themselves out. If you have a reasonable GPA,
fill out the application neatly and completely, and write decent essays,
you should have a good chance to getting in.
