Quality of life is where I believe Rice truly distinguishes itself.
It's residential college system is so unique and makes social life at
Rice amazing. Every student is assigned to one of eight (now nine)
residential colleges where you live for 4 years. Colleges compete in
intramurals, social competititions and more. Rice is also the only wet
campus in Texas which means social life stays on-campus and allows for
an inclusiveness not found at other universities. Also, the fact that
there are no fraternities or sorrorities creates an environment of
inclusiveness rather than segregation based on looks and how much money
your parents have. The fact that over 70% of students live on campus
gives you a feel for how successful Rice has been creating an amazing
quality of life for students - this at ridiculously low prices!
And you're in the middle of Houston - which gets a lot of flack for the
weather, but is an amazing city with an amazing amount of diversity and
attractions. Anything you want to do you can do - AND there are
student discounts everywhere!
Also, you can park on campus! I'm at a state university now and I
can't imagine having a car as an undergrad here.
