I had no problem getting an internship and then a full time job. I had my pick
of offers. Tons of employers come to Rice. I was Computer Science - and because
of that had many job prospects. I would say this was true of all my Engineering
counterparts as well. What was great about Rice is that because it is small the
Career Center is centralized and students can see all job opportunities. At
larger schools, they segregate career offices via academic colleges. Considering
I went into consulting (a non-traditional computer science job), I would not have
been afforded that opportunity at a larger school. I did not search for a job
outside of the career center but feel confident I would have been able to find
many great opportunities there as well. Employers (especially in Texas) assume
that you have what it takes when you have a degree from Rice. For those that
want to be outside of Texas, they might find the career opportunities to be
regional, but the other side to that is that a lot of students want to stay in
Texas too, so competition for the non-Texas jobs is less. And the career center
will help you find the job of your dreams.
