Purdue has a large Greek system, but not to the degree that other
midwestern Big 10 schools do. Students feel no pressure to join a
fraternity or sorority, but those that do find the kind of community
they're looking for. Area restaurants and bars offer a wide range of
cuisines and price ranges. Students gravitate to Harry's Chocolate Shop,
a prohibition-era holdover that is a favorite with students and alumni.
Purude's social scene is an active one, with great student participation
in football, basketball and other varsity sports. The Grand Prix race
is a feature of springtime activities, as is the rivalry of football
against Indiana University in the fall.
