Otis College (the Goldsmith Campus) is located in Westchester, CA, which is
right next door to Los Angeles International Airport. It is an
unusual but an ok location. The whole campus is contained inside a seven story
building, which, while I was there, funtioned inside that
buidling. Since I left, another building was built, to contain the Fine Arts
Department, so those students have their building, which
created a whole lot of breathing room for everyone, including room for more
gallery space. There are actually some apartment housing
between the airport and the school and some freeway roads, but there is some
granduer to driving next to those runways and beingable to
see those big airliners come and go at sunset and sunrise from the top of the
the seven story parking sturcture.
Westchester includes a VietNamese neighborhood, so there are many wonderful
little cafes and restaurants wth terrific food, including
the usual malls and strip malls with the usual assortments of pizza joints
Italian, Mexican and Chinese cafes....everything you could
possibly want, really. The neighborhoods surrounding the school are suburban
neighborhoods that spread to the Pacific Ocean. There is
a big Park across the street from the school. There is much greenery and a lot
of safety...I can't remember any incidents of crime or even
any threat of it.
